この法人は、現在途上国が行っている安全面・環境面において問題のある船舶解体事業に対して、安全で環境にやさしい先進型シップリサイクルシステムの確立を目指し、廃船を有効資源として再利用するための先進技術の開発や産業化の可能性等について調査研究を進めることで、地球環境の保全と国際社会の発展並びに地域経済の活性化に寄与することを目的とする。
